Canadian Presbytery Report – Feb 2017

Feb 2017 Report from APC – Vancouver

Each year it is good to regularly review past work, congregational progress and look forward with hope and expectation to times of greater blessing. In times of drought and famine there appears to be no hope, and yet a shower of rain suddenly brings new life and regeneration. The Lord has graciously kept us in 2016 and we look forward to blessing in the coming days. Over the past year the congregation had help and support from a number of ministers and students in 2016 who led the worship services each Lord’s Day. Rev F. Matandika resigned from the congregation in January 2016. The Rev. MacInnes visited in February 2016 and preached the congregation vacant. We are very appreciative for all the help and support provided by Rev. MacInnes to us in Canada. We are also indebted to the Rev. Tom Aicken who was able to preach and assist with congregational meetings. It was also encouraging to meet and listen to young pastors who are seeking to spread the word in the Vancouver area, but also overseas.

The annual congregational meeting was held on February 23, 2016. A pastoral search was undertaken between April and November 2016. Four candidates were considered, and the congregation decided to proceed with a call to Rev. Norman Van Eeden Petersman in November 2016, which was accepted in December. We are thankful for the Lord’s provision of Rev. Van Eeden Petersman and family who settled into the Vancouver charge in February, 2017. Three new members joined the congregation in 2016 which was a great encouragement. The refugee program participation was transferred to the Chilliwack Heritage Reformed congregation, and financial support was provided. A church picnic held at Peace Arch Park in September 2016 was a time for good fellowship.

The congregation in Vancouver continues with regular weekly services at Cityview Baptist Church and a mid-week Bible study. Please continue to pray for Rev Van Eeden Petersman, his family and the congregation as this new chapter commences with the work in Vancouver. The congregation in Vancouver sends our love to you all in the Lord.
