We’re a small but hope-filled Christian church with an awesome message of new life in Jesus Christ! At the heart of our ministry is this great conviction: Christ is King and He calls us to confess His name in faith and repentance. We invite you to join us on Sunday at 2pm to hear from God’s Word and to lift up your voice in songs of worship with us! We love having visitors and pray often that the Lord would bring you to us so that you would be fed by the Word of God and refreshed through Christian fellowship!
As a congregation, we are committed to the faithful preaching of the gospel for the salvation of sinners and the sanctification of the saints ultimately to the glory of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. “Always Preaching Christ” is our motto after the manner of the apostles. (1 Corinthians 1:23). Our vision is to be a united body, sustained by the grace of God, worshipping and serving together in the living proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ for the glory of God in Vancouver and abroad. Our mission is to proclaim and defend the gospel to all people, in word and deed, with courage as humble servants of Jesus Christ to the glory of God.
The history of the Vancouver congregation goes back to 1916 when Rev. Donald Beaton [of the Free Presbyterian Church (FPC), Scotland] was invited by Mr. Hugh Mackay and several other Scottish immigrants to come to Vancouver and conduct services.
In 1922, the Vancouver congregation was formed. Mr. Donald Matheson (a lay missionary) and Mr. Hugh Mackay (elder) sustained the congregation and took the services (1922-1928). Between 1922 and 1952, pulpit supply and other ministerial functions were provided by ministers from Scotland.
Previous ministers include: Rev. Dr. MacDonald, a former medical missionary to Zimbabwe (1952-1970); Rev. Douglas Beattie (Cir. 1975-2002); Rev. Jerold Lewis (2002-2006), and Rev. Fletcher Matandika (2008-2016).
In 2017, Rev. Norman Van Eeden Petersman began his ministry in the Vancouver congregation.
