The Door

Highlights of our Spring 2022 Issue

This issue has a selection of different people in it… mostly from the past … Matthew Henry, Andrew Murray, Jonathan Edwards and one who might be new to you William Borden. But their advice is very modern – about the integrity that is needed in bringing up your family, what our true source of true happiness should be, how we must remain in Christ.

Also look out for information about the Watch List from open doors – and what persecution really means to many of our believing brothers and sisters across the world.

The Door

Highlights of our Winter 2019 Issue

There is an international feel to The Door this season – not only do we have a feature from Cameron Fraser featuring South Sudan, Carolyn Poon who worships with her family in the Inverness Congregation introduces us to the Christian life in Singapore. The nations of The Netherlands, Scotland and Zimbabwe are combined in John Tallach’s tribute to Jan van Woerden. Lord Mackay also gives an informative article on the current UK political situation, clarifying the basic facts while encouraging us towards prayer for our nation and its leaders.

APC News Winter 2018

Things have changed since our last issue, and not just the weather. Life goes on, new life begins and still friends and family we knew and loved pass on. I recommend reading the 2nd out of three instalments from Charles Spurgeon on The Shadow of a Great Rock. In this edition he ends with the followig words: But to die trusting in Christ, how blessed! – How true that is. It is great to read these writers of the past who still give us wisdom after all these years. (From the editor)

APC News Summer 2018This summer’s hot weather in the U.K. drew me towards one of Spurgeon’s sermons on The Shadow of a Great Rock in a weary land. Read on to find out how a shopping trip for Barbeque equipment triggered one author’s memory of Isaiah. John Ferguson’s article on Revelation takes what is often considered a puzzling book and explains some of the tricky questions within it. (From the editor)

The Door

Highlights of our Spring 2018 Issue

APC NEWS Spring 2018There are some new names and old names in this edition. John Perritt will be a new name to some of you but he is an established writer through The Gospel Coalition and Desiring God, as well as having written a book for Christian Focus Publications: What Would Judas Do? His article for The Door is on the three I’s of Scripture: Inspiration; Inerrancy and Infallibility.

Two names in this edition are fond memories from our past. There is an obituary on William Byers as well as a short thought by the late Derick Bingham, who was once the teaching pastor of Christchurch Belfast.

The Door

Highlights of our Autumn 2017 Issue

This Autumn 2017 issue has a somewhat international flavour. We have a missions feature from Latvia, a new writer from the U.S.A. and we also have a gentleman from Singapore, Sam Poon, who is studying at Highland Theological College in Dingwall and who has written an article about a Scottish worthy – Samuel Rutherford. Brian Cosby’s article on the five solas of the Reformed faith helps us mark the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s 95 theses. It is important that we all remember our godly heritage, and that we pass this on to the next generations.

Learning from Lord Mackay - Book Cover Donald Macaskill has a review of a new book by Cameron Fraser which serves as a profile of one of our APC members, Lord Mackay. This book, called Learning from Lord Mackay, can be purchased on Amazon by all who are interested!

Finally, Catherine Mackenzie has an article on Katherine Luther, the wife of Martin Luther, who was a remarkable figure of the Reformation in her own right.

The Door

Highlights of our Summer 2017 Issue

This issue sees the return of a previous writer – William Boekestein.

This time he is writing on a doctrine that some of you will definitely feel you have grown up with – Perseverance of the Saints. But often with these things we don’t really know as much as we think we do. William’s background in Reformed Theology and specifically The Canons of Dort should make this article something new and seasoned theologians will enjoy.

We are also printing John Ferguson’s final article on The Apostle’s Creed while introducing you to two new writers – Stephen Barton and Mary Louise Stone.

Along with the usual Sit Down With Spurgeon we’re also Relaxing with Ryle!

This time our Desert Islands Books castaway is Hugh Mackenzie from Tain and Fearn.

The Door

Highlights of our Spring 2017 Issue

It’s not often that you have husbands and wives writing in the same magazine… but it seems that not only did we do that last quarter with Rod and Emma Mackenzie it has happened again with George and Isobel Macaskill. Look out for Isobel’s article When God Says No, and George’s thoughts on what books he would take with him to the proverbial Desert Island!

We are continuing with some of the regular features from previous issues such as John Ferguson’s notes on The Apostle’s Creed. Thanks also to Donald Fraser for his contribution commemorating the Queen’s Jubilee year of 2016.

Readers will also find an article titled Single and Serving by Pat Ennis and one on Helen Roseveare by Catherine Mackenzie.
