The training and ordination of ministers is vital for the well-being of the church. The APC follows a set procedure for church members who have sensed the Lord’s calling to become a minister in the denomination. It is wise to speak to your minister about your calling before submitting an application. A member should submit his application to the Kirk Session for recommendation to the local Presbytery.
If an application is approved by the Kirk Session and local Presbytery, a course of training/assessment will be established for the student. This process involves the assessment of a candidate’s gifts and qualifications. A student for the ministry is examined in his beliefs and also in his knowledge and understanding of Scripture, the Westminster Standards, church practice, church history and theology. Your APC minister will be able to supply you with further information concerning the application and training process.
